Motorcycle licence classes determine which bike you may ride. The summary below is for information only; for current age and duration conditions ask your driving school or provincial traffic directorate.
Licence classes
- M: mopeds and scooters up to 50 cc with limited top speed. The Meltem Urban 50 falls in this class.
- A1: up to 125 cc and a maximum of 11 kW. Suitable for the Meltem Urban 125 and Kuzgun N125.
- A2: motorcycles up to 35 kW with a power-to-weight ratio not exceeding 0.2 kW/kg. The Maxi 250, Maxi 400, N300 and R500 are in this class.
- A: all motorcycles with no power limit. Required for the Adv 650, Roadster 900 and Touring 1200. The age limit for direct access is higher; there is also a progressive route after A2 experience.
Tips for a safe start
- Always wear an ECE 22.06 certified helmet in the right size.
- Gloves, a jacket and boots significantly reduce crash injuries even over short distances.
- Prefer ABS models; braking safety on slippery surfaces makes a big difference.
- If you are starting out, begin with a light, low-power bike in the first year and progress gradually.
Winter and off-season care
For bikes that will not be used for a long time, connect the battery to a charger, leave the tank full, raise tyre pressure and lubricate the chain. A periodic service and brake check at the start of the season are recommended.
At Viraj Motor we check your licence class before a test ride and show you the suitable models.
